Why is POS Different?<< Back to HardwareLet's imagine a typical mid sized office with 10 people using Microsoft Office. Each of them is working on a letter, or a spreadsheet or a presentation. As they work, everything they do is stored in memory. No two people can work on the same document or spreadsheet. Each user works in a personal file. When completed the files are saved individually and written to the hard drive. With InstantPOS, the situation is totally different. Every time you make a sale in InstantPOS, the program writes small amounts of information to between 15 and 30 different files (depending on exactly how the invoice is done and what is on it). Additionally, most stores have more than one computer, which means that other users are reading and writing to those exact same files at the exact same time you are. The system must be able to handle all those multiple simultaneous transactions without data loss or 'getting confused.' |
